      Non-formal Education for underprivileged women and children

      With 52 Learning Centers catering to over 1600 students across 20 cities, U&I helps increase the employability of women, children and youth from lesser privileged backgrounds with courses in English, tuitions and life skills. Statistics prove that simple knowledge of English in a metro city increases a youth's employability by 400%. With 2000 teaching volunteers, U&I is able to work with these women, children and young adults giving them a better tomorrow.
       

      Transforming Institutional Care

      At U&I Care, our vision is to transform institutional care in our country. U&I assists in the care and rehabilitation of 85 mentally challenged boys in the Institute of Mentally Handicapped Children (a state run institution) near Dairy Circle. With 9 staff working full time on this project, U&I provides medical care, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and grooming for the boys at the Home. In the last two years, U&I has made a tremendous impact on the level of care and rehabilitation provided to these boys who have been abandoned by their families

    • CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

      Do people describe you as a grammar nazi? Do you cringe when you see a

      misplaced apostrophe? Do you have crazy good research skills that can translate into stunning and
      impactful copy? Read on, friend. Read on. You may just be the word whiz and research ninja
      we’re looking for.

      Responsibilities

      • Write CSR funding proposals and applications. We don’t want flowery speeches. We need factual data that is presented in a compelling narrative.

      • Yeah, we know you like words. Like a lot. But you also have to manage the proposal submission process. Which means, developing a proposal calendar of companies who are granting CSR funds and submitting proposals on time.

      • Write impact reports (Annual & Quarterly) for individual donors and corporate partners. People want to see that their money is being spent on something worthwhile.

      • Responsible for researching, collecting data from the program team, and compiling program reports. The job involves co-ordinating with others to get as much data and stories, you can’t disappear to a cabin in the woods and write your narratives.

      Must Haves

      • Great writing skills. Like, obvious, right!

      • Outstanding grammar skills. Its one of those thing’s that is Non-negotiabel. See what we did their? Did you spot all grammar errors in those sentences?

      • It’s not enough to say you’re a people person. You kinda have to be one to work with multiple teams and different personalities.

      • Good writers think. Great writers think. You need to think critically and present data in a compelling and accurate way.

      • Good organizational skills (Yeah, creatives still need structure) and be proactive (at U&I we believe in chasing goals, not people).

    • FUNDRAISING MANAGER

      If you get this job, you’ll sound like one of those black-suit-wearing Wallstreet types. Well, almost. But, hey, you’ll still be working on budgets – and you can always wear a suit to work.

      Responsibilities

      • Network with companies, trusts, government agencies and other bodies for grants. Confidence and thick skin may be helpful!
      • Manage the grant application process. This involves writing, editing, uploading forms, and following up. Once the donor gives us funds, guess what? They want to make sure we used it correctly. That’s where you’ll come in. Track, report, keep donors happy.
      • Organise fundraising campaigns and events. These are like team sports. Without the sweat.

      Must Haves

      • Candidates must hold a graduate degree.
      • Crazy good communication skills. Like Goalcast worthy. Or at least close.
      • Effective under pressure (like one of those undercover FBI agents), goal oriented and proactive (At U&I, we believe in chasing goals, not people).

    • TEACHER - BOY'S HOME

      If you are a qualified teacher and love working with children (although we hope all qualified teachers think kids are awesome),

      then check out this profile. It’s for a teacher, a leader, a planner, and an all-round nice guy.

      Responsibilities

      • Be the activities guy and conduct vocational training for the residents of the Home.
      • Get super creative and develop lesson plans and learning activities for the boys.
      • Conduct special needs classes for individual or small groups of students.
      • Some admin stuff. Yeah, there’s really no job with zero paperwork.
      • Develop daily schedules with assistant carers. We’re big believers in schedules.
      • Create monthly reports and present them to co-founders, managers etc. If you use lots of colours and big, impressive words, it might actually be fun!
      • Maintain collaborative relationships with government liaisons - Just to make it sound uber cool.
      • Play fun games with the children. We’ll call them ‘recreational activities’ just so it sounds more formal.
      • Co-ordinate excursions and celebrations for the children. You’ll get to buy a lot of birthday cake.

      Must Haves

      • Background in social work or education.
      • Heart for special needs children and teaching. Non-negotiable.
      • Knowledge of Kannada is a must (speak, read, write). Yeah, “Kannada gothilla” isn’t really going to cut it. 
      • Male candidates only as the position is in a government-run boys’ home.

    • PLAYSCHOOL TEACHER

      Do you love kids? Does Twinkle Twinkle Litter Star still fascinate your imagination?
      Do you get pumped to see little ones reach their milestones? Then this might be the job for you.
      You’ll be working with 0-6 year old children in a government-run home for abandoned and orphaned kids.

      Responsibilities

      • Be nurturing. This is a job that requires both hands and your whole heart. You’ll need to connect with children and make sure we’re giving them our best support.
      • Kids thrive on routine. You’ll have to develop daily schedules, make lesson plans and supervise plans with assistant carers.
      • Some admin stuff. Yeah, there’s really no job with zero paperwork.
      • Maintain collaborative relationships with government authorities. Sounds like important stuff. It is. Don’t worry – we’ll show you the ropes.
      • Conduct recreational activities for children. In other words, you’re the fun-in-charge.
      • Co-ordinate excursions and celebrations for the children. You’ll get to buy a lot of birthday cakes.

      Must Haves

      • Background in social work or education. (No, working hard on social media posts is not the same as social work)
      • Heart for special needs children and teaching. Non-negotiable.
      • Knowledge of Kannada is a must (speak, read, write). Yeah, “Kannada gothilla” isn’t really going to cut it.
      • Female Candidates only as the position is in a government-run care home.

    • PHYSIOTHERAPIST

      This is a position in government-run Homes for special needs and differently-abled individuals.

      Responsibilities

      • Be caring, compassionate, and patient. This is a non-negotiable.
      • Assess each child’s physical condition.
      • Formulate treatment plans to address specific need.
      • Conduct complex mobilization techniques.
      • Stay up-to-date with developments in treatments.
      • Provide monthly reports on each child’s progress.
      • Present data to higher authorities. We’re keen on tracking and reporting and we want our team to have the same values.

      Must Haves

      • Minimum 2 years’ work experience in paediatric rehabilitation or working with CP children.
      • Bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy.

    • TEACH - MANAGER

      Who doesn’t like the swag of being called a “manager”? But more than that, we want you to apply for this position if you’re a take-charge type of person who wants to use their mad relational and project management skills to create stunning impact.

      Responsibilities

      • Ensure the 2-3 learning centers you’re in charge of run smoothly. We’re thinking rabbit fur and velvet cushion type smooth.
      • They call in troubleshooting, we call it real life. If drama/kids mouthing off/attitude from volunteers scare you, then you might want to reconsider applying. 
      • Handle all the operational aspects of the learning center. That’s business speak for - the buck stops with you.
      • Mentor your team of volunteers. How cool is that? You get to instill hope and grit in the next generation. Okay, slight exaggeration there.

      Must Haves

      • Impressive relational and project management
        skills
      • Lead/handle a training session armed with a power point presentation that uses a minimum of 5 colours. JK. 
      • Crazy good communication skills. Like Goalcast worthy. Or at least close..

      SOCIAL IMPACT MANAGER

      After ten years of slaying it in the education space, U&I is now boldly going where no person has ventured before. Just thought we’d grab your attention with that :P But here’s the inside scoop: Over the next year, U&I plans to implement high-impact projects in the environment,city welfare and destitute care space. We know! We’re crazy amped about this too.
      If you're entrepreneurial, socially-driven and bounce around ideas faster than Steph Curry does a basketball, this one is for you!

      Responsibilities

      • Network. Network. Network. And we’re not talking about the high-powered luncheon type schmoozing. You’ll have to contact NGO’s and understand their needs. And corporates and their needs. And put the two together to see how to engage companies in social impact projects.

      • Roll up your sleeves. Yeah, we all like “ideating” in cushy armchairs. But this job is also about implementing projects on the ground.

      • Be a troubleshooting guru and a planning pundit. You’ll have to schedule, assign, arrange and organise a whole host of moving parts for projects. And if that falls through, you’ll have to ditch the plan and roll with the punches. Ninja flexibility skills required.

      • For volunteer engagement events, you’ll be the point person. The go-to guy/gal. The one that EVERYONE looks to for direction, answers and, of course, the fun quotient. No pressure there.

      • Oh, and the main thing: every event must create impact. Like we said, no pressure.

      Must Haves

      • Communication Skills - The candidate ought to be able to talk smart and write smart and carry the U&I brand to corporates and NGO’s without breaking a sweat.
      • Great team player - At U&I, we’re BIG on family. Without the family feuds. We’re looking for someone who gets that.
      • Willingness to travel - Even to places that are not quite of the “destinations” on your bucket list.
